Know all for the drone batteries.
Drone pilots have to store and charge the drone batteries with good care.
Using Drone Batteries
The batteries of the drone are one of the most important parts we have to care about. With the proper care, charge and storage of the batteries, we ensure long life and good condition of our drone.
Here we have collect all important tips for drone batteries usage
Using Drone Batteries
We start with some very basic tips about the Usage of your drone batteries.
– Never touch and change the battery when the drone is turned ON.
– Fly your drone ONLY with fully charged batteries. You have to be sure the batteries are 100% charged. Ensure that the battery is properly attached to the aircraft.
– Try to fly your drone with no erratic movements. The constant speed and direction will provide smooth work of the motors and respectively to the battery. Erratic flights will drain the battery very quickly.
– Your Aircraft has a User Manual and there are guidelines about temperatures. The very cold and very warm temperatures are leading to the possibility of irreversible failure of the battery.
– In case that you have more that one battery, but several try to rotate them and to not use just only one. You can label them and put a Number.
– There is a section in your manual – Intelligent Flight Batteries – this part you have to read really carefully and understand all explained details.
– The DJI batteries are shipped usually in “Hibernate Mode”. You have to charge such battery in 100 % and this will turn On usage in normal usage. Respectively the batteries will go in Hibernate mode 10 minutes after total and completely draining.
– In every 20 cycles of Full charge and full drain – it is good to perform Complete Charge and Complete Discharge.
– If you get a Battery Error – try to drain your battery down to 0% and
after that recharge to 100%.
– Always keep the connectors of your drone battery clean and dry. Do cleaning with a dry and clean cloth and be very careful.
Correct Battery Storage
If you are planning a long time standby of your drone, you have to carry about correct storage of all its parts. This includes especially the batteries. There are basic conditions for storing this kind of batteries and if you follow them you will save your drone and batteries in a very good condition.
– Keep your batteries in room temperature and a dry place. You should never leave the battery in the drone because this may reveal serious damage.
– If you intend to store your drone for a Short time ( 1-10 days) – then the batteries must be discharged 60-80%.
– If you intend to store your drone for a Long time – then the batteries must be discharged 40-60%. They can stay without being charged for no more than 3 months because after that will become reduced.
– Never leave any batteries in vehicles except when you travell or during transportation.
– Additional safety might be a metal case or a fireproof bag.
Battery Charging
This procedure is most important and it is part of good care. Your drone batteries have to be charged this way:
– Each type of battery from different producer has own rules about the temperature. In the User Manual, you can find your type and the explanation of this. Usually, you have to charge your drone batteries in room temperature between 22 – 28°C.
– Never charge the batteries right after you have performed a drone flight. If you need to charge them, you have to wait around 15-20 minutes so the batteries to get cool.
– Always use Original battery charger. There is a chance to find somewhere cheap batteries, but these third-party chargers often are without any guarantee for the quality. Our advice is to avoid them.
– Always supervise the process of charging. Never leave the charger, especially in the night hours or when you are not at home. It’s good to check the charger from time to time, just for safety.
– Always charge your batteries on a non-flammable surface.
– Intelligent Flight Batteries do have overcharge protection option. For the others – when the battery is full charged- remove the charger.
Battery Safety Tips
– Never use any battery if you notice any damage or leaking. This may bring a drone crash.
– If the battery comes in contact with water or any other liquid- stop using it at the moment. Leave it to get dry in an open area naturally.
– If somehow your battery gets fire – NEVER use water. You can use sand or designed for an electrical fires fire extinguisher.
Travelling with Drones
These days travelling with drone became absolutely often practice. Each drone pilot travels to get the place or area where wants to make the drone flight. Before taking on the trip you have to be sure about the correct storage of your drone. If you are travelling by your car, the batteries of the drone must be ventilated and stored in a safe fireproof case. Don’t allow batteries to stay unordered and non-safety.
